Immunizations

Parents are asked to make many important decisions for their children. Some of the most difficult choices concern a child’s health care. Whether or not to immunize children against certain diseases is a difficult decision. We all want to do what is best for our children, and as a community, we also need to protect the public’s health.

Why it is Important to Vaccinate Our Children

Research shows that childhood immunizations are a safe and effective way to protect our children and our community against communicable diseases. Some of these diseases are becoming more rare — that’s because of successful vaccination programs. If we stop vaccinating our children, those diseases will come back.

Sexually Transmitted Infections

Sexually transmitted infections (STI) can be transferred from one person to another through sexual contact. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there are more than 15 million STI cases reported in the United States each year.

Teenagers and young adults age 15-24 are at greatest risk for acquiring an STI. Each year 3 million become infected.

Most STIs are treatable, but herpes, AIDS and genital warts have no cure. Some of these infections can be deadly. Syphilis, AIDS, genital warts, herpes, hepatitis, and even gonorrhea have all been known to cause death. Therefore, education about these infections and prevention are important.
