Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis is a communicable disease caused by bacteria, spreading through respiratory droplets. You may need to be tested even if you do not feel sick due to your work environment or past exposures.

Testing: Available at the Webster County Health Unit on a walk-in basis as needed. The test is a two-part process. The first visit is to administer the skin test, then you must return to have the skin test read within 48-72 hours (window).

Due to the reading window, we do not administer TB skin tests on Thursdays.

Additionally, we are closed on all state holidays, which can impact the reading window- contact our office at 417-859-2532 if you have any questions about your upcoming test and window for reading.

Case Management: Nurse case managers offer personalized care to tuberculosis clients, ensuring proper medication use and monitoring physical response. Treatment plans are tailored to each individual, and care may be coordinated with the client’s primary healthcare provider.

Our goal is to treat tuberculosis and prevent its spread through thorough contact investigation and follow-up.
